wash your hands for 20 seconds.

  1. Hi Nate
Doesn't 20 seconds seem like such a long time when you are washing your hands? But to do a proper job and wash them thoroughly, you really do need all that time. How do you count for 20 seconds? Do you counting slowly or sing 'Happy Birthday' to yourself?

  2. That is right Jackie, 20 seconds can seem like a really long time. But we all need to ensure we wash our hands well and dry them well to.

  4. Well done Nate. I really like how you are washing you hands for the right amount of time to get all the germs off them. Do you sing to yourself while you wash them?

  5. Kia ora Nate,
Ka pai on creating this blogpost about washing our hands. You are completely correct when you say that we need to be washing our hands for 20 seconds. It is important to do this so that all of the bacteria on our hands is washed away, and so that we limit the spread of any germs to the people we physically converse with.
When I was in highschool I took cooking classes where our teacher would make us sing the ‘Happy Birthday’ song twice while washing our hands. This is because each round of this song is 10 seconds, therefore two rounds (10+10) would equal to 20 seconds.
Have you ever sung the happy birthday song while washing your hands?
Back when I took these classes we also had to follow a handwashing procedure. This was to ensure we followed the food safety rules correctly.
    These were the following steps-
    Rinse hands under warm water
Add soap, and lather for 20 seconds. Ensure you get all of the surfaces on your hands including between the finger, up the wrist, and under the fingernails
Wash the soap off of hands with warm water, ensuring there is none left
Dry hands thoroughly with either a clean, dry tea towel or some disposable paper towels
Do you follow any particular hand-washing procedure?
I really like how you included an image of you washing your hands! I personally think this adds such a lovely touch to your post, and am impressed with your ingenuity!
    Keep up the fantastic job!
    Nga mihi
